"We're goin' to France! Parlez-vous Olympics?"

The Cutting Edge
DB Sweeney, Moira Kelly, Roy Dotrice, Terry O'Quinn (1992)

102 minutes
Rated PG

I love this movie. Shut up. I fell in love with this movie when I was eight years old and I have loved it dearly ever since. Especially DB Sweeney.

This is the story of a young Olympic hockey player, Doug Dorsey (Sweeney), who on a particularly vicious hit in a game against West Germany, loses some of the sight in one of his eyes, preventing him from ever returning to hockey. At the same Olympics, a pairs skater, Kate Moseley (Kelly), has broken with her coach and partner after a particularly humiliating mistake. A few years later, her new coach, Anton Pamchenko (Dotrice) comes looking for Doug, remembering his incredible skating ability, wanting him to become Kate's newest partner, in a long line of temporary partners since that Olympics. They pick on each other, belittle each other, but gradually their relationship improves as their partnership grows. They have problems along the way but all ends well.

It's the best! I kind of want to watch it this week with all the Olympic madness going on! :-)
